About Us

A small, family run business in Sourdough, Alaska

Our names are Kris and Casey. We are a mother/daughter duo and the owners of Sourdough Creek Outfitters.

We are avid lovers of all things outdoors: hiking, fishing, gathering, preserving, and enjoying anything we can in nature. Casey lives next to Sourdough Creek, alongside the Gulkana River, with her husband and 3 kids. Kris and her husband spend as much time as they can up there, while currently living in Seward. Sourdough is a peaceful place that offers serenity and creativity, and we feel blessed to be able to call it home.

Our Story

We've always been creative and enjoyed trying new things. In Alaska, the winters can be long and dark, so what better things to do than get better at your hobbies?

Originally from Wisconsin, Doug and Kris moved to Seward, Alaska in 2013 to begin a new adventure. About a year later, Casey decided to try something new and moved there as well. Casey then met Adam, a born and raised Alaskan.

We all had spent some time near the Sourdough area and were immediately drawn to it. When Doug happened to see a property/cabin for sale, they jumped at the opportunity. After spending an abundance of time there, and being near Adam's hometown of Nelchina, Casey and Adam decided to call it home. Doug and Kris look forward to retirement where they plan to live in their cabin in Sourdough.

Throughout this time in Alaska, everyone continued to explore their hobbies and further the skills of existing ones. Kris and Casey started making signs, also getting help from Doug and Adam.

Then after starting a family, Casey decided to start sewing kids clothes that was more her style of simple, outdoorsy, and functional. Kris loves earrings but struggled to find ones she absolutely loved, were comfortable, and lightweight. So she started making her own Birch bark earrings. Doug decided to try leather making and has been doing some incredible things like leather wallets, holsters, shell holders, and more.

Then during the guy's yearly moose hunt, us ladies decided to make our own candles and diffusers so we could choose our favorite scents. That ended up being very fun and rewarding, so we continue to make those.

To top it all off, we enjoy taking a nice photo when you see a sight that just stops you in your tracks. We felt others would appreciate the opportunity to see them and even share with others in the form of 8x10 photos or greeting cards.

Everything we do, we put lots of time and love into. Each item we have listed is unique in its own way, giving you a one of a kind item. We thrive on creating things we love and we hope that you love them too.
